Gourds have been grown in many parts of the world for many centuries. Dried hard gourds are/were used mostly by primitive cultures as vessels for storing and transporting foods. However, they are/were also often used for making masks and decorations for domestic and ritual purposes. Expressions of beliefs and ideas conjure up many images easily translated into gourd art.
George uses mostly natural materials except for some occasional acrylic paint and few items such as glass beads. All gourd artwork is finished with 3 coats of lacquer. His other gourd designs include vessels, animals, and musical instruments. Additional artistic excursions include framed collages of unique multi-media and occasional paintings.
